Kevlar® Fiber

Created by Stephanie Kwolek while working for DuPont, Kevlar and its family of fibers was engineered with the specific intent of producing a material that was lighter and stronger than steel. Kevlar is, simply put, a super strong plastic. This particular plastic is made from polymers – which is a fancy way of saying that the chemical makeup of this fiber requires the chemicals to bond in chain molecules (really strong chain molecules). Kevlar is most famously used in body armor for police and military personnel like “bullet-proof” vests. (Woodford, 2016)
